Okay so this is it...

So, now I really need to get finished making my little party finished. I'm optimistic for next year and ready for some changes. Here's to a happy, healthy, interesting New Year! Why not start it with some karaoke??? Nothing funnier than tipsy midnight karoke to a song nobody knows the words to! Cheers!

20cm

The best musical numbers ever, from a movie called "20 Centimeters." The music involved is so varied and wonderful.

Resolutions...Resolutions

I know they are a silly traditon that no one follows much anymore, or even takes seriously. But I quite like resolutions. What's not to like really? The ability to start over new and strive to change one thing that could use improvement. And who couldn't use a little improvement? I could! So, here's mine:

1.Stop Biting my Nails.-I've fought this habit since I was three, it's about time that I beat it.

2.Drink as minimally as possible.-I hate hangovers and need to learn my limits..i'm not a teenager anymore.

3.Spend money wisely.-Basically this means less cheap stuff, instead save for the good stuff. And by this I mean clothing...vintage clothing!

These are all pretty important to me, so I'm that posting them will help me stick to it.
Happy New Year!!!

To party or not?

I keep toying with the idea if having a New Years Eve party. Should I really go through all that trouble? I'd really like to just have some friends, some drinks, good music and some silly party favors and have a great time. I just don't know if the procrastination will kill it. I think I might just have to try...if it's a bust then I'll walk out and around Hollywood and find something better to do I suppose.

Random compliments can be wonderful.

Today a lady told me I was the "Epitome of femininity." And she wasn't trying to sell me anything either. She really made my day, because I sure don't feel that way at all. It's nice when strangers can make you smile with something so simple.

daniela kamiliotis @ The Selby

I've become very obsessed with The Selby lately. Seeing into the homes of such a diverse crowd is so inspiring-especially the artists. I was especially taken with the workspace of Daniela Kamiliotis, the vice president of the women's collection of Ralph Lauren. Her office is just brilliant. Here's a bit of my favorites:

You can tell so much about someone from their bookshelf. A huge warning sign for me is the lack of one. It always makes me wonder. A large collection of a variety of books however, is a great first impression for me.
I absolutely adore her rings, I'd love to get my hands on just one of those signet rings.

And the feathers! There is something so enchanting about the fragility of feathers and the complexities of nature. I don't think any textile designer could ever match their beauty.

Just a little sidenote...

I'm noticing that I've posted a lot of youtube stuff lately, and while I hope this doesn't seem like a youtube blog, I just can't help it. I try to fill this blog with things that I find inspiring and lovely. And lately that's included a bit of youtube....

I will never forget you Eartha!

I was so sad to hear of Miss Eartha Kitt's passing late last night. She's always been a favorite of mine and the world is not as fun today without her.She was a true icon and a lady with more guts and class than her contemporaries, and a world above anyone around today. Here's my favorite Eartha song, which I play in my head while getting dressed up:

And here's a great french one too:

Sunday Sunday Sunday

Geez, I really know how to waste a day off. Here it is 2pm and i'm not even dressed. I feel too lazy to even attempt to bother yet. Maybe it's because I finally tackled my closet and stayed up until 4am doing so. On the upside it's done, on the downside there is a lot left to do. Do you ever just want to blow your day off? It's my last one til Christmas so I should be making it count, but I really just feel like cleaning and reading....I always do this. I make all sorts of plans in my head but when the day comes I opt out jsut so I can be lazy. Well I suppose I ought to at least attempt to get ready to enter the outside world...

Here are my Sunday theme songs.....

Can't forget Madonna!

I just love her as a brunette. As a kid I really was mesmorized by the beauty of this video...so retro and yet so modern for the time. I have to say, Madonna is one of the coolest.

It's Raining it's Pouring....

And I absolutely love it! So, in honor of the Southern California rarity, here are some of my favorite rain pictures-courtesy of Google.
You have to love a pin up girl rain photo.

So major that everyone tries this at one point in their life.

I've always tried to get a shot like this, but never have.

I wish I had just a part of her outfit.

Not sure where this is from, but I love it. And their hairstyles!

I would love to have a copy of this in my apartment.

Rainy Day Movies

You can't have a rain post without this. I can't help but love it.

And in this one, doesn't your heart just break from Cat?

To me, this movie is a new classic....

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Olvera Street- You can't see it, but there's a nativity scene in the gazebo. And the 16th through the 24th they are have Las Posadas there also.

The Hollywood and Highland Center

Union Station

The Olvera Street Candle Shop

The Scientology Center on Hollywood Blvd. I wonder if those photos are free....
*I'll update this soon, as there are quite a few trees that I haven't gotten to yet.

I'm on a roll.

When go you out and stay out too late,
and drink way too much

and photographs are the only memories

you have of the night before

and you wake up feeling like hell,

there is only one thing

that you can do.....

Drink some guava leaves tea. I am not kidding, it kicks your hangover to the curb. And your nausea too. And the spins. Buy some now so you have it later. Because you should never be punished for having too much fun.

Something Pretty

This picture really captures the elegance of an era past. I wish people still dressed up to go to parties. I absolutely love the white dress. Though I do wonder why they look so bored. Maybe someone put on a Pat Boone record or something.....

Betty Page "Critically ill."

Betty Page suffered a heart attack Tuesday in Los Angeles and is currently "critical ill," according to her manager Mark Roeseler. Page is 84 years old and a legend in the burlesque and pin-up world. Let's wish her a speedy recovery and lots of good wishes filled with love.

Grammy Nominations

Of all the nominees, my favorite is Adele. I really hope she gets it, because she is wonderful. And I really don't like Coldplay or Lil Wayne. Not even a lil......

La Santa Cecilia

Skeleton Bust by Christopher Victorio

Last night we went to La Cita downtown and saw La Santa Cecilia.La Cita is pretty much a covered in Christmas lights and tequila,a pretty cool place with no real issue getting in at the door, it has an ample dance floor and red vinyl seating. It's the second time I've seen these guys, and they did not disappoint. The lead singer has one of the best voices around and their accordion player is insane. The band was followed by a DJ who did mash ups of Mexican music. All in all a good night, with the exception of the shitty bartender. Word to the wise, if you go to La Cita bring a flyer with the drink specials because the guy we had neither knew the specials nor wanted to give them. So if we hadn't had the flyer we would have had to pay double for the drinks.

Itching to create something new.

I just got back from a five day visit with my family, and I'm settling back into my life here. And it's weird. I have the sudden urge to change so much: paint my bedroom, dye my hair, take a course, paint a picture, sew new curtains, work on my books pages, anything but sit still. Which is what I am doing. Is this laziness really my only obstacle or is it my lack of focus? If I really just concentrated on one thing at a time I could get a task done. Instead I'm hell bent on starting a million projects just destined to remain half finished. Seriously, why do I do this? I often wonder if true creative geniuses ever struggled with these problems of indecisiveness or it the blueprints to their brilliance was mapped out. I really need to write more on this, I'm a real half ass blogger. I keep thinking of Basquiat and Bukowski, Marilyn and Debbie...were they ever as confused as the rest of us? I guess I need to not drink so much tea, and get off the balance ball and do something. Here's my song for the evening....
