Gift Guide #1

For the person who has everything, or for your friend who has the offbeat sense of humor I think the baby head vase is perfect! It can easily be switched up, looks completely odd/beautiful and will always be a focal point. This of course means you will be brought up again as the person people want to receive gifts from-imagine all the party invitations! Get it here.

For the Holly Golightly in your life why not the Holly Golightly sleep mask? Pair it with the Capote classic or a copy of the dvd and you will have a winning gift. Also goes well as a hostess gift when coupled with some bubbly. Get it here .

For your friend who needs help eating their fruits and vegetables, or your fidgety niece or nephew...may I suggest Food Face! A modern Woolly Willy, it's just what you need to distract the fussy eaters in your life. Get it here.

Haunting the Alexandria

Definitely one of the coolest interiors in Downtown Los Angeles. It made for a great evening and some very inspired photographs.

Ghouls Night Out at the Bigfoot Lodge

Started off the Halloween festivities with a bang at the Bigfoot Lodge. Great music, friends and cool costumes...all I ever wanted or needed.

Weird Hollywood

Friday night I went to an amazing book launch party at Boardner's for "Weird Hollywood." The place was filled with Hollywood's most original characters and the people who love them. There was music and the whole party felt more like a huge performance art installation than a book launch.I know it's cliche to say "Fellini-esque" but that's a pretty good description, or maybe "Lynchian" is more fitting (as in David Lynch). Either way, it was hands down one of the most surreal nights I've ever witnessed. My favorite new friend was Count Smokula (pictured above), he's a very talented musician and one of the funniest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. So, if you want to delve into Hollywood's weird side, I suggest you buy the book-because it will take you there.

The Most Wonderful Time.

This is my favorite time of the year, better than my birthday and Christmas combined. All week I've been watching ghost stories on TV and squealing with delight at all the cool things to buy in stores. Even the thrift stores are better right now, I swear they stockpile the good stuff just for Halloween.

Cooler than Most.

I love when women pull of a casual tomboy look that has both a vintage and a modern feel. Nothing about her looks contrived and yet I envy every piece of clothing she has on. She definitely makes an impact without trying very hard.

Decisions, decisions....

So for Halloween I'm thinking of doing Peggy Bundy one night, then using the same wig to do Miss Yvonne the next....

Or....do I do Vampira instead? The only thing about Vampira is will people get it? Or am I gonna get mistaken for some lame vampire chick/Elvira ? Cuz Maila Nurmi was way cooler than that. Thoughts?

She had style, she had grace.

Grace Kelly just knew what to do.

Candid Camera?

One funny thing about going out in Hollywood is that someone always takes your picture, and you get to find it later. I happen to like this because I am the worst about taking pictures these days.

She Sells Seashells.

I can't believe Summer is just about over and I haven't touched sand once. I'm heading to my hometown for the weekend, so I'm thinking I need to do one beach day. Or a nighttime walk along the sand at the very least. These ladies make me want to smell salt air, and I am not a nostalgic girl when it comes to the beach.

Darling, darling , darling.

Perfection.

Life's a gas....

Cemetery Love, Raspados in Boyle Heights, Exploring the old Ed Wood Studios, and a fun time at Sunset Junction. I'm saying this Summer is one of the best of my life. Only a few more weeks to make it even better.

Radio Clash

"If I had five million pounds I'd start a radio station because something needs to be done. It would be nice to turn on the radio and hear something that didn't make you feel like smashing up the kitchen and strangling the cat." -Joe Strummer

Favorite Things

These are a few of Morrissey's favorite things. Funny, because he's always been one of mine.

Claude Simonon

So, Paul Simonon of the Clash is his father. And he's doing a pictorial homage to a young Elvis Presley. Claude Simonon, you are gonna give a girl a heart attack. What's next? Are you in an amazing band too?

In the Flesh.

They may not be together now, but they were a great looking couple. And they made beautiful music together. What more could you want really?

A Beautiful Child.

"She is a beautiful child. I don't think she's an actress at all, not in a traditional sense. What she has this presence, this luminosity, this flickering intelligence could never surface on the stage. It's so fragile and subtle, it can only be caught by the camera But anyone who thinks this girl is simply another Harlow or harlot or whatever, is mad. I hope, I really pray, that she survives long enough to free the strange lovely talent that's wandering through her like a jailed spirit."

-Constance Collier

(A quote from the short story A Beautiful Child, from the book Music for Chameleons by Truman Capote)

Marilyn was found dead on this date in 1962.

K-I-S-S

Now that's a kiss.

Killing Me With Kindness...

Lately gay men have been telling me I look like Sherilyn Fenn. I don't know if they are trying to kill me, but I die a little every time it happens. In fact it usually elicits a scream that is so involuntary I feel a little embarrassed. If only it were true. She is so amazingly perfect, I would kill to have 1/10th of her looks.

Beauty is Pain- Tonight!

I cannot wait to see what the fabulous Rio Warner has in store for us all. If you can, go to this-it will not disappoint.

Mad Hatter

Why don't they make hats like this anymore? Is it because no one would wear them? Because I happen to think some ladies would, my kinda ladies who want to keep their skin free of sun damage and who also appreciate a stylish hat would totally wear them. And yes, I am aware that I just created a pretty decent sized run on sentence. But this post is about the hats and why these particular ones are so needed right now.

Summertime...and the living is easy.

Something you may or may not know about me-I'm a list maker. But not in a normal person-grocery/chore list kinda way. More like an optimistic "I WANT THAT," kinda way. So seeing as how recently I've come across an bit of extra time on my hands I've decided to make a list of things that I would like to happen this Summer. Are you ready for it? Well here you go, a little insight into my strange desires for the next few months, in no particular order:

1. Late night walk all around Hollywood. The air feels so good at night!
2. Snow Cone at Olvera Street followed by some fruit and chili pepper and a concert by mariachis or those guys who play in the middle of the "square."
3. Late night karaoke in Little Tokyo.
4. Dennis Hopper Exhibit at the Geffen Contemporary.
5.Water balloon fight with unsuspecting strangers and or my friends.
6. Hit up every street vendor that visits my block for the day. This would include the ice cream man, the corn guy, the awesome produce dude, and more fruit and chili pepper.
7. A county fair, any county fair. I want to see farm animals, crafts and carnies.
8.A concert at the Hollywood Bowl, and no I don't care which one.
9. A game of baseball just like the kids at the Sandlot.
10.Go to a real baseball game, preferably a night one.
11. A swim at Marion Davies' Old Estate.
12. Get up or stay up before or after the sun comes up...as in late night party time.
13. Check out the Natural History Museum rose garden, and say hey to the Dinosaurs.
14. Picnic! I blame "Big Top Pee Wee," for making me desire this so much.
15. As many Slurpees as possible....
16.Hula hoop contest.

Girl in a Coma

I'm kinda obsessed with this song right now. These girls do such amazing covers of a lot of my favorite songs, but this original tune is heartbreaking. Nina Diaz has the most beautifully haunting voice that is unlike any I've ever heard. I love them so much. And they are playing Sunset Junction this year, so I'm very excited for that now.

To Catch a Thief

When in doubt this summer, just channel Grace Kelly in "To Catch a Thief." The quintessential summer wardrobe designed by Edith Head will never go out of style. Obviously, it helps if you look like Grace but even still these outfits are very hard to beat. On a side note, I absolutely hate when people say Gwyneth Paltrow is the new Grace Kelly. Not even close in any way. Just a little something I had to say about a little something...
