Girlie Tomboy Chic

How amazing does she look? I can't tell if the photo is new or old (though I am leaning towards new), and all the pieces are so simple. It is just how she wears them. Personal style goes a long way. Like they say in Boogie Nights, "Wear what you dig."

I Got Stripes.

Every time I put on stripes I sing the Johnny Cash song, "I Got Stripes." I don't know why, but it just feels good. You should try it too. Ps. The lipstick I'm wearing is a Revlon original 1950s color that is still being made-Cherries in the Snow. My grandma still wears it, and so what better endorsement do you need really? Even better, they make a matching nail polish. Go crazy cuz its a bargain!

Style Inspiration:Kim Novak in Bell,Book and Candle

Even though it just started getting truly hot here in Hollywood, my mind is on fall. And the biggest inspiration for me right now is Kim Novak in the film Bell,Book and Candle. Capes, cowl necks and some perfect capri cigarette pants are the perfect take on a modern witch in this 1958 classic. Her use of basic silhouettes and strategic color showcase her beautiful face and leave this film looking very stylish and modern. The thing you will notice is that her clothing is very modest but also very sexy...less is more,if you will. For example a boat neck top hides the cleavage, but showcases the collarbone and brings your focus up to her beautiful eyes. I've also noticed that a well fitted boat neck is every woman's friend regardless of cup size. The costumes in this film were done by Jean Louis of Marilyn Monroe "Happy Birthday Mr.President" dress fame. He also did some great dresses for Marlene Dietrich in the 1960s, but it's Marilyn's dress that everyone remembers the most. The one thing you should take from this film is that a good fit goes a long way. You don't need a lot of items to look polished, just the right ones. Its really a building block wardrobe with some fun pieces, like that amazing leopard cape (shown above).

Venice Beach Adventures

Adventures in Venice Beach. You never know what you may see or do!

Velvet-Thrashin

It's no secret I love Sherilyn Fenn, but seriously how good does she look as Velvet in Thrashin? Pretty rad to see her in full 80's regalia. Proof of her perfection and flawless face for sure.

Debbie does Hollywood

Debbie Harry is the coolest. I can't articulate it any better, and I don't think I really need to. I love seeing her mug in my city. Even if these are from before I was born...

Amy,Amy,Amy

If I was able to get to Camden, I'd be so thrilled to see this new exhibit all about AmyWinehouse. Put on by her brother Alex, the exhibit shows a different side of Amy. The clothes alone! Maybe someday it will cross the ocean and come to LA....sigh. More info HERE.

Morbid Fashion Inspiration

This whole month I've been on a hunt for some 1940s peasant style clothing. I couldn't for the life of me figure out where this came from. It's not really my style, but I have been wanting it so badly. Then I figured it out. The Death Hag in me wants it. I want the Carole Landis death outfit. Call me shallow, but how great is that outfit? If you read the death report, the shoes are gold even! I know I'm a jerk for it, but that image will forever be in my brain. I blame the copy of Hollywood Babylon in the family library. Ruined me for life.

Before she was Morticia.

Carolyn Jones was a different kind of starlet. With a jet black bob and piercing blue eyes, she stood alone in a sea of blondes. I would have to say my favorite thing about Carolyn is that she has a timeless look. While so many starlets were undeniably beautiful, their looks are very decade specific. Any of these photos of Carolyn would look just as current today. True disclosure-I've been trying to grow out my bob...and now these pictures of Carolyn have me wanting to not only keep it, but cut it a little more. Fun trivia, she was once married to Aaron Spelling when they were both struggling actors. She encouraged him to write, and the rest is history. At the end of her life, he helped her with finances, because he was that kind of guy.

PS.If you'd like to see Carolyn in action, may I suggest her and Elvis in King Creole.

sexy in a turtleneck.

Proof that it's not what you wear, but how you wear it.
Ps.these kinds of sweaters are cheap cheap cheap right now-stock up!

That gum you like will be coming back into style.

While I was away, this happened. I was on my way to get groceries and I heard someone yell "Hey Hollywood!," with a comment like that I had to look and there was my Twin Peaks moment. The Man From Another Place, also known as Mike is one of the best dinner dates alive. We spent the entire time talking about Quantum Physics and he gave great life advice. Only in Hollywood I tell ya.

I'm BAAAAACCCCCK

After a few years hiatus, I've decided to go back to it and restart this blog. It will be a little different, but the same loves will remain. Here's hoping I get the hang of this new blogger format. Please bear with me while I get my bearings again. This blog was always a fun escape for me and I have fingers crossed that it will be my love once more. Let's have fun and obsess some more!
XOXO,
Kristal
