That was weird...

Today some older guy started dancing at me while I was stopped at a stop sign. While doing so, he also made a funny singing sound. I don't know what that means...

Dan Eldon

I am so excited that the Dan Eldon exhibit has finally made it's way to Los Angeles. Dan's life was cut tragically short at 22, however that is not the point of his story. Dan's story was one of life and adventure. Fitting as much into life as possible. His journals reflect that, and his photos range from beautiful to haunting. A British/American national raised in Kenya, Eldon's point of view was a worldly one and his work reflected that. I first discovered Dan's work my senior year of high school. I checked the book of his journals out and could never find it in my heart to return it. It meant that much to me. Once when it was raining, I protected the book with my jacket instead of myself. As a result, I've always wished that I would have the opportunity to see the journals and Dan's photos in person. Naturally excited doesn't quite describe it. So for that, I suggest it to you. If you are in the area, go see this exhibit. If you aren't-please do yourself a favor and get the book. There are two: "The Journey is the Destination," and "Dan Eldon:The Art of Life." The first is his journals, the second a type of biography. And before I go on forever, here's the info:

Dan Eldon: Traveling ExhibitTues, February 17 – Sat, March 21Join us for an exhibit of remarkable travel journals and images of war and peace photographed by journalist Dan Eldon, who celebrated his life and death at 22 as a creative activist and whose art became a means of positive social change. Opening reception on Friday, February 27, from 6 pm to 9 pm. A film festival and panel discussion with producers, directors, actors, and journalists on creative activism will also be held.

Rainy Thursday

I am so excited for the rain. Naturally I didn't bring a jacket to work today and definitely not an umbrella. But there's something nice about getting drenched and then going home and making some hot chocolate, and if you decide to add a little brandy or Kahlua...well that's nice too.

This is my all time favorite movie. And the worst is the end. I dare you to make it through this without a tear.Better yet, just watch the whole thing.

The Day the Music Died

Fifty years ago today:Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, and the Big Bopper died in that plane crash in Clearlake Iowa. Taking with them countless unsung songs. Ritchie footage is hard to come by, but if you can look for "Go Johnny Go." It's a great movie simply for the fifties rock n roll cameos, like Ritchie and Chuck Berry.

I'm seriously been craving a good book lately. I think I need to go back to the library and get more than DVDs. Or maybe Larry Edmund's and get a book on the movies. Any suggestions?

A Nice Weekend

So, after one too many flirtinis on Saturday night I had the hangover from hell. But with a little extra sleep and some Guava Leaves tea, I was back in business. Chinatown on Sunday for the New Year, and today I was lucky enough to check three things off my LA to-do list:Grand Central Market, Central Library (where I renewed my card), And the Bradbury Building. What a rare and beautiful gem. I think I'm in love. We also made it to Clifton's Cafe and I'm really kicking myself for not taking a single picture. I was just so enamored with my macaroni and cheese, oh well, guess I'll have to go back. Very very soon. I love this city, if you want to you can have a different adventure everyday.
