For Marilyn M...from C. Bukowski
for marilyn m.
slipping keenly into bright ashes,
target of vanilla tears
your sure body lit candles for men
on dark nights
and now your night is darker
than the candle's reach
and we will forget you, somewhat,
and it is not kind
but real bodies are nearer
and as the worms pant for your bones,
I would so like to tell you
that this happens to bears and elephants
to tyrants and heroes and ants
and frogs,
still, you brought us something,
some type of small victory,
and for this I shall say:good
and let us grieve no more;
like a flower dried and thrown away,
we forget, we remember,
we wait. child,child,child,
I raise my drink for a full minute
and smile.

Vintage Dreams
I went to the Hollywood History Museum today over on Hollywood and Highland and now I'm obsessing big time over all things vintage....I just want to go back in time and scoop up some of that Old Hollywood glamour, when a name change and a dye job transformed you into a star. I'd even settle for some nice vintage furniture or clothing. I suppose I'm going to have to go to the Farifax Flea Market this Sunday and try my luck. But until then, I'm definitely going to be pouring over some images from the golden years of Hollywood. Enjoy the beauty and glamour, cuz they just don't make them like that anymore.

I'm getting siiiccckkkk....
Well, now it feels like fall. It was actually gloomy for a bit today, I needed a sweater, and now i'm feeling the symptoms of a sore throat...I don't really have the energy to post much, but I do have some cool pictures I took of Downtown LA last week, so here it goes. I'm off to drink mass quantities of miso soup, theraflu, chloraseptic and hot saltwater for gargling. Wish me luck!

Chop Suey
I've got to be honest, it was the fabulous neon sign that drew me in. I'm a sucker for an old restaurant with history and the Chop Suey Cafe has been here for ages...since 1935 to be exact. Located in Little Tokyo, the Chop suey Cafe is a little slice of Los Angeles history, it is said that during World War II, the restaurant owners allowed Japanese Americans who were ordered to internment camps to store their possessions here for safekeeping until after the war was over. Not sure if that's 100% accurate, but if it is it makes the whole place that much better. The food was great, perfect flavoring and nicely portioned. But what really stood out was the Far Bar.
Located in the alleyway beside the restaurant is a hidden enclave that is what is known as the "Far Bar." Nothing fancy, but plenty of twinkle lights. And there is something really wonderful about having a Singapore Sling in a dolled up alleyway. It was the type of place I could spend all night in...and I recommend it completely.
