Good Cause+ Good Music+ Good Movies=Good Time

So, like most people with good ears i'm a huge Ramones fan and this Friday at the Hollywood Forever cemetary they are paying tribute to Johnny Ramone who succumbed to prostate cancer in 2004.The nice people at Hollywood Forever put on a lot of really great events that no Angelino should miss. Every weekend they play classic movies and they have the best Dia de los Muertos celebration in Los Angeles. This event will be attended by the remaining Ramones,(Tommy, Marky, and CJ), and lots of Ramones memorabilia.A live concert will be shown as well as the 1932 cult classic "Freaks." For those of you who don't know, The Ramones got their infectious "Gabba gabba hey " chant from this film, which featured actual sideshow performers. If you haven't seen this movie I highly suggest you do, it is quite possibly one of the strangest movies of all time! Picnic dinners and drinks are allowed so feel free to come and get cozy(a little tip, they really frown on chairs with high backs here).Tickets are a suggested $10 minimun donation to Johnny's Prostate Cancer Research Charity at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. This event really looks to be a fun time, and if you do go, don't forget to say hi to Dee Dee, he's actually buried there. Information for this event is available at http://www.johnnyramone.com/ .

Hungover and Hungry

So I stayed up way too late last night with friends, actually we ended the evening at 6am this morning. So naturally I feel like hell and am kicking myself for not drinking enough water, because now i've wasted the day and missed Echo Park's Lotus Festival. To soften the blow I am going to have to indulge in some jewish comfort food in the form of Canter's matzo ball soup. If I was in San Diego it'd have to be a burrito from Alejandro's but since i'm not, only Canter's will do.I've heard mixed reviews on Canter's but I have to say, it has always left me satisfied (that's what she said...), besides you can't really hate a place that is open 24 hours and gives you as many pickles as you can handle. And it's a Los Angeles institution. How many places can say they have served both Marilyn Monroe and Guns and Roses?

Keeping cool in Hollywood

Now that i've moved to Hollywood I walk anywhere I can, which is a huge blessing during the summer of crazy gas prices. However, to keep cool you've gotta have some shade. I got this great silk chinese parasol from Wing Hop Fung in L.A.'s Chinatown for less than $6.00, which along with a folding fan have kept me cool during this hot month. If you can't get to Chinatown you can always order online at www.asiachi.com. At that price you can afford to get a few different colors.
